I am a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Crone Lab within the Johns Hopkins Neurology Department. I support unionizing Hopkins postdocs and researchers here because we are grossly overworked and underpaid, despite being the backbone of the research here that gives this institution its prestigious reputation.

I’m a postdoc in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at JHU. I’m all in for the unionization of Johns Hopkins PRO because it’s all about leveling the playing field and ensuring that everyone gets a fair shake. Think about it: better working conditions, fair treatment, and perks that genuinely reflect our hard work. Plus, there’s strength in numbers – when we stand together, we’re unstoppable. It’s about creating a workplace where every voice matters and where we’re all treated with respect!

I am a research associate (formerly a postdoctoral fellow) in the Department of Cell Biology at Johns Hopkins University. I support unionization because I want our contract to include better immigration support for us international workers. I also want greater job security guaranteed by a clearer termination procedure and right to appeal.

I am a Post-doctoral Fellow in the Biology Department at Johns Hopkins. I support forming a union of post-doctoral fellows and research associates here at Johns Hopkins because I believe we all deserve equitable pay, protection against bullying and harassment, and the same benefits allotted to other university employees. 

I’m a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Dawson Lab in the Neuroscience department here at Johns Hopkins. I am in favor of a Hopkins Postdoc & Researchers union because I want someone who can represent the present and future postdocs’ diverse interests and needs.

I’m a Research Associate (formerly a Postdoctoral Fellow) in Biophysics at the School of Medicine. I support postdocs and researchers unionizing here at Johns Hopkins because the prestige and wealth of Hopkins and the profit-making of many industries rests on our research work. We need more democratic power within this system as well as more pay and other improvements.

I’m a Postdoctoral Scientist in the Batlab in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences. I advocate for the unionization of postdocs and researchers within Johns Hopkins University as a crucial step to actively support equity and diversity, and collectively enhance our working conditions, specially as foreigners, ensuring our dignity in the pursuit of knowledge and innovation.

I am a Postdoctoral Fellow in The Chloe Center for the Critical Study of Racism, Immigration, and Colonialism at Johns Hopkins. I support forming a union of postdoctoral fellows and research associates because we need a collective voice to unite across campuses and fight for equity, dignity, and power in the workplace.

My name is Josué Tonelli Cueto and I am a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics at Johns Hopkins. 

Above everything, research is a collective activity to which many of us dedicate passionately. However, this activity is not a pastime or a hobby but a work. We should not think of ourselves only as tireless researchers in the search for the truth, but also as workers who face similar problems to other workers elsewhere. As such, it is important that we organize as workers, that we unionize, to defend our conditions and rights as workers.

In particular, as postdocs, we are not just any kind of Academic worker. We are in a delicate position where we experiment pressures to publish, pressures to get exceptional results, pressures to prove ourselves… Unionizing, we will not only defend our well-being as workers against these pressures, but we will also defend research against the corrosive effects of these pressures. Hence unionizing, we are not only fighting for our working rights but for a fairer, better research.

My name is Tianyu Cao. I am a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Pathology. I support the formation of a union because our wages and benefits are severely limited, making it difficult to maintain a stable living, especially in the face of an increasingly uncertain macroeconomic environment. Employment opportunities for postdocs are often precarious, and we deserve a stronger voice to advocate for fair pay, better job security, and a more sustainable career path. A union would empower us to fight for the rights and protections that reflect the critical contributions we make to research and innovation.
