Like thousands of academic employees across the country, we are forming a union to bargain collectively with Hopkins and advocate more broadly for our common interests like improved wages and health benefits, protections from discrimination or abusive treatment, and rights and protections for visa holders.

Use the form to sign a union authorization card and be counted in the majority!

Without a union:

  • JHU administration unilaterally determines our working conditions and can change them at any time without our negotiation, input, or consent
  • JHU administration may consider input about our working conditions, but decides how and when to use that input
  • We are more vulnerable to individual and systemic discrimination and harassment because JHU rules and regulations can’t be easily enforced by individual postdoctoral researchers

With a union:

  • You work with your peers to determine what matters for your collective benefit
  • We elect a bargaining committee that gathers input from fellow postdoctoral researchers across campus about what we want to demand in a first contract in regards to salary, benefits, etc.
  • Our bargaining committee negotiates on equal footing with JHU administration toward a fair agreement
  • We decide democratically, through a formal vote, whether to approve any agreement as our contract
  • Our contract secures our terms and conditions of employment and is binding and enforceable, usually through appeal to a neutral arbitrator
